My caller ID setting is set to "Virtual Office Number." Why is a strange number appearing instead?

If your Caller ID setting is set to "Virtual Office Number" but you're seeing an unfamiliar or "strange" number instead, it is likely due to the Call Announcement feature being enabled.

Why Does This Happen?

When Call Announcement is turned on, the Caller ID displayed on your phone will not be your Unitel Voice number. Instead, you may see a random-looking 9-12 digit number (example 020387941700).

  • What This "Strange" Number Means:
    • The number represents the extension the caller selected during the greeting.
    • The last digit(s) of the number corresponds to the extension pressed. In the example 020387941700 the extension dialed is 700 (020387941700).

How to Identify These Numbers & Fix Caller ID Confusion

Step 1: Pay Attention to the Last Digits

  • Example: If the number appears as 0203879413, the "3" at the end may indicate the caller pressed Extension 3 (e.g., "Sales Department").

Step 2: Save the Number as a Contact

  • Once you identify the extension the number represents, save it as a contact on your phone.
  • Example: Save 0203879413 as "Sales Department" so you can recognize business calls instantly.
  • Example: Save 020387941700 as "Business Number Ext 700" so you can recognize business calls instantly.

Step 3: Consider Turning Off Call Announcement

  • If you'd prefer to always see your Virtual Office Number as Caller ID, you can disable Call Announcement in your extension settings.

Which Option Is Right for You?

  • Keep Call Announcement Enabled → If you want to hear a prompt before answering business calls.
  • Turn Off Call Announcement → If you prefer seeing only your Unitel Voice number as Caller ID.
