This guide will show you how to set up an Auto Attendant where you forward your Unitel Voice number to your Main Greeting without using a menu of department and employee extensions. Instead, callers will be directed to speak to the next available representative.
Example Main Greeting:
When customers call your business, they might hear:
- "Thank you for calling ABC Company. To speak to the next available representative, please press zero now."
This Auto Attendant setup has 4 steps:
- Create Employee Extensions
- Invite Your Team
- Add Employee Extensions to Department Extension 0
- Record & Upload Your Main Greeting
Step 1: Create an Employee Extension for Yourself
First, set up your own Employee Extension so you can use the Unitel Voice mobile app and manage your voicemail.
Here’s how:
1. Log into your phone system and go to the Extensions section.
2. Click Add Extension, then enter your name, email address, and select a time zone. Set your permission level to "Admin," uncheck the invitation email, and click Add.
3. Turn on Mobile App & Devices under the General Information section to forward calls to your mobile.
4. Download the Unitel Voice Mobile App from the Apple Store or Google Play.
5. Open the app, and either scan the QR code or enter your login credentials to sync your Employee Extension to the app.
6. Scroll down to Forwarding Extensions & Numbers, delete the default forwarding number by clicking the trash can icon, and click OK.
7. In the Voicemail Forwarding section, enter the email address where you'd like to forward voicemails.
8. For your Voicemail Greeting, click Add your own greeting. Select Record by computer to start the recording. Once you’re happy with your greeting, save it and make sure it’s selected.
9. Then scroll up and click “Save” to save the extension’s settings.

Step 2: Create and Invite Your Team to Their Employee Extensions
Now, create Employee Extensions for every team member.
Here’s how:
1. Go to your Employee Extensions list and click Add Extension.
2. Enter the user’s details and set their permission level.
Initially, users will only see and control their own extensions. You can make them Admin for full access (excluding billing).
3. Make sure the invite email box is checked, and click Add to send the invitation email. This will allow the user to log in, reset their password, sync their mobile app, and manage call forwarding.
4. Repeat this process for each team member.

Step 3: Add Employee Extensions to Department Extension 0
Next, add the employee extensions to Department Extension 0, which serves as your general routing extension.
Here’s how:
1. Go to Department Extensions and click Edit on Department Extension 0.
2. Scroll to Forwarding Extensions & Numbers, delete the default forwarding number, and click OK.
3. Click Add a Forwarding Number, then select each employee extension to forward calls. You can add a description and adjust the ring duration (we recommend 15 seconds). Click Create.
4. If you want, click Edit on the employee extension to adjust the Forwarding Schedule for specific days and times.
5. Repeat this for each employee extension.
6. Choose how calls will be forwarded (in order, randomly, or simultaneously). You can also reorder the list.
7. In the Voicemail Forwarding section, enter the email address where voicemails should be sent.
8. For the Voicemail Greeting, click Add your own greeting, then select Record by computer to record your message. Save it and make sure it’s selected.
9. Then scroll up and click “Save” to save the extension’s settings.

Step 4: Record and Upload Your Main Greeting
Finally, you’ll record or upload your Main Greeting.
1. Go to Settings > Greetings
Recall the Main Greeting example we started with:
“Thank you for calling ABC Company. To speak to the next available representative, please press zero now.”
2. Click Add your own greeting.
- Option 1: Select Record by computer to record a greeting yourself.
- Option 2: Use Voice Talent Studio at studio.unitelvoice.com for a professional recording (recommended for a polished, professional impression).
3. Once you’ve uploaded or recorded your greeting, choose whether it should replay or automatically forward to an extension if no option is selected.
